Red Wolf
The Red wolf is one of the smaller cousins of the Gray Wolf. It's coat is a grayish-black with a hint of red in it for which the Red Wolf is named by.
diet
The Red Wolf's diet is mainly made up of mamals such as rabbits and other small rodents. The Red Wolf is also known to eat small bugs, berrys and every once in a while deer.
Population
The Red Wolves, almost hunted to distinction, have been rounded up by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife services. Fewer than 20 were taken in to captivaty and bred in the 1980's. At the date of 2007, about 207 captive Red Wolves reside at 38 captive breeding facilities accross the United States. Because of these programs, more than 100 Red Wolves currently live in the wild.
Range
Historically, Red Wolves ranged throughout the southeaster of the United States from Pennsylvania to Florida and even in the west such as Texas. Today the Red Wolf population roams more than 1.7 million acres through the northeaster of North Caralina, including Alligator River Nation Wildlife Refuge and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.
